Description
The history of education, long studied in terms of its relationship to wider social changes, is increasingly seen in the context of life cycles, stages and the life course. Recent years have seen a growing interest in the histories of ageing and of childhood with conferences and new journals to explore these themes. Meanwhile, the history of youth and youth movements, and of particular groups of learners ranging from university students to adult writers, have all flourished. Historians have also been interested in teachers’ careers and in the ‘life story’ approach to historical research. Although ‘lifelong learning’ is often associated specifically with the education of adults, this conference invites submissions on the history of education in its relationship with any aspect of the life course. We welcome papers on all periods of the history of education and from and about anywhere in the world.
